Ben Newsome

Ben’s training has focused on the treatment of Advanced and Complex Trauma for clients ranging from teenagers throughout the lifespan. Consequently, much of my work with clients focuses on shame, guilt, and over-control of one’s emotions. Shame, when toxic, is a paralyzing global assessment of oneself as a person. When severe, it can form the lens through which all self-evaluation is viewed. As such, much of our work is focused on exposing these toxic areas of life that may have led you to wall off your emotions from others and avoid the cleansing experience of naming the painful trauma. Shame cannot exist when it is voiced. It is here that we recognize patterns of avoidance and over regulation of our emotions and begin the process of returning to being fully present with others and ourselves.
Originally from Ohio, Ben Newsome, EdS, LPCC holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Asbury University, a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky, and a Specialist in Education and Counseling Psychology Degree from the University of Kentucky. Ben is independently licensed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.
